Putting it all together

Being attuned to the atmosphere of the image as it takes shape can greatly facilitate and support the creative process.

While working on this sketchbook, a scene of an Asian landscape — in the style of calligraphic drawings from, for example, Japan — took shape in my mind’s eye.

Following this inspiration, I designed the use of materials. The same applied to the composition. A conscious approach to open spaces and the courage to embrace empty spaces shaped the rest of the design.

This principle blended perfectly with the initial intention to create marks that must be left as they are and have to speak for themselves.

As a result, this sketchbook presents itself as a harmonious body of work with a powerful atmospheric impact and varied design.
