The importance of observation
Throughout the creative process, it is important to let the work sink in.
In this sketchbook piece, the materials — the inks and their lightness — reminded me of Far Eastern ink paintings and calligraphy.
With this in mind, I continued to develop the landscape-like lines. In the papers I collect for collages, I found a sheet of tracing paper with some kind of asemic writing that resembles calligraphic characters, and I pasted it in as a collage element.
At that moment, an entire story began to unfold before my inner eye. The subsequent layers and continued brushstrokes emerged under this influence and shaped the atmospheric effect of the whole sketchbook.
