Forms of Community

Excerpt from my sketchbook

In my previous blog posts, I’ve written about my personal interactions with artist friends. But there’s also the aspect of online interaction.

For several years now, I’ve been active in various online groups. At first, I was skeptical, but over time I’ve come to see that genuine interaction is possible even through a screen—not just in the form of conversations, but also through painting together and then presenting the results.

These sessions have led to some very inspiring works for me, some of which are finished pieces.

The positive atmosphere is indeed transmissible and perceptible over the internet. Being alone and together at the same time creates a dynamic that cannot be achieved when working alone or in a large studio. The familiarity of one’s own workspace and the connection with others within this familiar space offer new possibilities for self-awareness.

In this way, online exchange greatly complements personal interaction.
