Getting started
The starting point for this sketchbook was a photo of tree silhouettes I had taken some time ago.
I printed it out, cropped it and pasted it in as a collage. I then created a kind of landscape by letting black ink flow across the entire length of the concertina-sketchbook. I tried to make the most of the landscape format and spread the ink in the longest possible drops and smudges.
I really enjoy working in black and white and love exploring different tonal gradations by playing with hard and soft edges.
The flowing ink formed organic structures and patterns whose abstract shapes blend beautifully with the collage papers.
