Painting with others

I created this sketchbook page during a painting workshop I attended. It was a kind of color study for a larger painting that I created outdoors, en plain air.

There were only five of us, which allowed for intensive guidance from the instructor. We also got to know each other better than we would have in larger groups.

As a result, I not only spent more time on my painting than I usually do in my daily life, but I was also able to engage deeply with the others’ work. It was a valuable experience to learn about their painting processes and, above all, to analyze the results in long discussions.

I learned how important the factor of time is in painting. On the one hand, the instructor provided us with guidelines for strict time management so that we could present our results. On the other hand, we enjoyed the space for conversation that had emerged from this.

Painting in a group gives me a deeper connection to other artists and, equally, to my own painting.
