Storytelling in art

Over the years, a sketchbook has truly become, for me, a book that can be viewed as a work of art in its own right. It does not consist of individual, unrelated entries, but tells a continuous story.

Just as a novel, due to its length, dictates the time one devotes to it, sketchbooks possess a temporal dimension that a single work of art lacks.

It took me some time to come to this realization. But it has fundamentally changed my understanding of the possibilities of art itself.

Further, it shapes my art by prompting me to work in series and to relate works from different media and series to one another.
