Looking at one's own work

As an art historian, I really enjoy research and immersing myself in books. For decades, I’ve been accustomed to viewing, analyzing, and contextualizing works of art.

I’ve come to realize that I don’t have that same open-minded approach to my own art. Instead, others point out models, themes, and connections that I wouldn’t have discovered on my own.

This shows me how important it is to continually share my art, especially my sketchbook work. It took me quite an effort but fortunately, I’ve received a lot of supportive, positive feedback. Of course, having a good group for this kind of exchange is crucial.

This has helped me view my own work through a different lens, as it opens up new paths for my own artistic development.
