Having fun!

Despite all ambitions and goals in developing artistic skills we need to stay aware of enjoying the process.

I once heard someone say about the creative process that the essential thing is ‘from where we make our art’. This means that artists don't have to endlessly improve their technical skills to create the best works of art, but rather that they must remain connected to their hearts throughout the entire process. They need to develop a sense of when and how exactly they can achieve this kind of creation.

It took me quite a while to seriously try to put this advice into practice. And to be honest, there are still too many days when I don't stick to it.

What generally helps me let go is not necessarily working with paint, especially on days when I don't have much time or energy. Sometimes blending charcoal or chalk with my fingers is enough. In those moments, I immerse myself completely in working with the material because nothing, such as having to find color harmonies, distracts me.

I often forget how much joy even this reduced way of working brings me.
