Reciprocity
Experiencing my work in the sketchbook as a trusting dialogue has helped me immerse myself fully in this practice.
However, it is not enough simply to immerse oneself in the creative process and unfold as freely as possible on the pages, day after day, over as long a period as possible.
It is absolutely essential to look back at one’s own work. To calmly flip back through the sketchbook, let the pages sink in, and recall the circumstances under which they were created. They will turn out to be a wonderful gift! In the way that they allow you to recognize the common thread in your own work and your own style.
Basically, you need to set aside extra time for this in your calendar on a regular basis in order to listen to one’s own creative output. And it’s best if you write down your insights as well.
In this way, I see my daily sketchbook practice not merely as a chore, but as a source of valuable—and sometimes surprising—insights and inspiration.
